| | | | Tarmacadam
 | At Alan Brown Surfacing Ltd, Tarmacadam is the most popular service we offer, it is also one of the most cost effective surfacing systems available. Tarmacadam is a bituminous material used for roads, pavements, driveways and car parks. It is comprised of tar and crushed aggregate which is mixed, then shaped and compacted during paving, either hand laid, or for large areas, machine laid. Tarmacadam is more often than not shortened to 'tarmac', though Tarmac™ is the registered trade name of the company by that name.Alan Brown Surfacing Ltd is well equipped with modern machinery and a skilled work force to lay all specifications of Tarmacadam in every type of environment. From a few square metres to repair a pot holed drive to thousands of square metres on car parks, commercial areas, drives, schools, estate roads, caravan parks, farm drives, footpaths etc. We offer three main services in relation to Tarmacadam: New work - Where we excavat e the required area, install a weed membrane when required, lay Type 1 MOT, kerbs and drainage requirements, then lay a binder course of Tarmacadam and then a surface wearing course of Tarmacadam. Depth of excavation and thicknesses / specification of the stone and Tarmacadam is determined by the type of traffic the new surface will be subjected to. Prepared area - Often we work for groundwork or building contractors who prefer to lay concrete kerbs into place, install drainage and compact the stone themselves. We would then lay the base, binder and surface layers of Tarmacadam to finish the project. Re-surfacing - For damaged areas of existing Tarmacadam and concrete, excavation is not always necessary. In this case the pot holes would be cut out and the surface industrially cleaned. All loose debris would be removed including weeds and moss etc., a bitumen based spray tack adhesive is applied and then the final wearing layer of Tarmacadam laid. Again the specification and thickness is determined by the type of traffic the new surface will be subjected to.
| | | | Resin Bonded Surfacing
| Resin bonded surfacing system provides an attractive, hard wearing, low maintenance surface by bonding or fixing loose gravel aggregates to concrete or asphalt. Aggregates bonded with resin to a surface give the appearance of loose gravel without the many maintenance problems. A wide range of natural aggregates can be resin bonded to a variety of surfaces making it ideal for heritage sites, landscaping schemes, parks, paths, driveways, roads and visitor attractions that want the look of loose stone but the convenience of fixed paving. Major Benefits
- Aesthetically pleasing – decorative natural appearance
- Durable – hard wearing and resilient
- Fixed – does not move, migrate, or wash away
- Low maintenance – requires only occasional sweeping and or pressure washing
- Anti-slip – textured aggregates provide a good anti skid surface
Apply to asphalt, concrete, timber and steel surfaces.
Life ExpectancyResin bonded gravel surfaces are very resilient. However life spans will depend on usage and choices of aggregate. Typical examples of expected life are as follows: - Footpaths using a 2-5mm Brittany Bronze: 8- 15 Years
- Domestic Drive using a 1-3mm Chinese Bauxite: 8-15 Years
- Car Parks using a 1-3mm Guyanan Bauxite: 5-10 Years
- Roads using 1-3mm Chinese Bauxite 5-8 Years
General Cleaning Oil, dirt or other common stains should be removed from resin bonded aggregate surfaces by applying a suitable household detergent or similar degreaser. Resin bonded gravel driveways, paths or paved areas should be swept occasionally to remove loose stones, they can also be cleaned using pressure washers to remove dirt and detritus.
Maintenance
Newly treated resin bonded gravel surfaces must be swept to remove excess aggregate as soon as possible. A further sweep should be carried out after 1 – 3 months to remove remaining loose stones. |
